Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We emphasize routine maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment all the time, but this doesn’t just mean ongoing tune-ups – it also refers to checking your air filters. It’s an easy way to help keep your system running smoothly and enhance your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! Now is the best time to check your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and the warmer weather is approaching. There are several benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Lengthening the life and efficiency of your system
A guaranteed way to cause a system interruption is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that accumulates on your filter can cause your whole system to operate harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can escalate your energy costs and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The purpose of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it enters your residence. As the filter gets older, the less capable it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your home, especially if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With warmer temps around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it circulating in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and stay healthy all through the allergy season.

Inspect your system or chat with your local HVAC expert for suggestions on how frequently you should be changing your filter. For the majority of the filters through Franklin's Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter available.
