Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We emphasize preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment all the time, but this doesn’t just mean annual tune-ups – it also means looking at your air filters. It’s a simple way to help keep your system working smoothly and enhance your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it by yourself! Now is the best time to check your filter, as the cooler weather comes to a close and summer is approaching. There are many benefits to getting a replacement air filter, such as:

Lengthening the life and efficiency of your system
A guaranteed way to cause a system interruption is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that accumulates on your filter can cause your whole system to operate harder than it should to keep you cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can increase your energy costs and result in your system overheating.

Increasing indoor air quality
The reason for an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it flows into your residence. The older a filter gets, the less capable it is in catching things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your house, especially if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring coming up, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it moving in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and remain healthy all through the allergy season.

Inspect your system or chat with your local HVAC expert for recommendations on how frequently you should be changing your filter. For the majority of the filters through Franklin's Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter available.
